MERIDEN — A local woman who acquired prescription narcotics by pretending to be a medical receptionist was being held on $20,000 bond.

Leona Foreman, 29, of 127 Springdale Ave. was charged Tuesday with three counts of possession of narcotics, six counts of conspiracy to possess a narcotic, three counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud and six counts of conspiracy to obtain a controlled substance by fraud.

Sgt. Darrin McKay, police spokesman, said Foreman told local pharmacies she was a receptionist for a doctor. Other women would pick up the prescriptions and receive a small percentage from Foreman. One of the pharmacies contacted police after employees became suspicious about the transactions. Police also received information from the women who picked up the prescriptions.
