Internet sting leads to attempted enticement arrest in Meriden

MERIDEN — A local man was arraigned Monday after police say he tried to entice someone he thought was a minor over the Internet.

Shane Shedrick, 24, of 120 Gravel St., was charged with criminal attempt to commit second-degree sexual assault, attempt to commit risk of injury and attempt to entice a minor using a computer.

According to police reports, a man later identified as Shedrick was contacting what he thought was a minor online. Police said Shedrick sent sexual messages and pictures of himself to the decoy. Shedrick requested sexual pictures and kept asking when they could “hang out,” police said.

Police say Shedrick set a meeting for the next day at a local church. Police officers went to the parking lot and found Shedrick waiting in his car. Before the officers said anything to Shedrick, he said, “I didn’t know she was 14,” according to police.

Bail was set at $10,000. If released, Shedrick must report to a probation officer to set up a computer restriction, according to court files. His next court date is May 27.
