NORTH HAVEN — Owners of the well-known New Haven restaurant Adriana’s are planning a new location in North Haven, filling the plaza space left by Leon’s restaurant across from the Big Y on Route 5.

“We’re expanding,” said Assael Monterze, a spokesperson for Adriana’s. “We are thinking of opening in September.”

Monterze confirmed that the restaurant will serve “Italian oriented” food, much like Adriana’s. He also said that the restaurant will be similar to Adriana’s in serving style and atmosphere. He wanted to withhold other details, including the restaurant’s name, until closer to opening. Workers could be seen inside the plaza space over the past month.

“So many people travel to New Haven to go to Adriana’s,” said Michael Freda, first selectman of North Haven. “Adriana’s, when it opens, will be a wonderful addition to the North Haven community. It is a well recognized restaurant and it is an opportunity for us from an economic development standpoint.”

Adriana’s is located at 771 Grand Ave., New Haven.

According to Freda, he had been in talks with the owners of Adriana’s “for about a year.”

“Once we announced it, social media lit up,” said Freda.
