The North Haven Fire Department, with the American Red Cross, plans to install free smoke alarms in North Haven residences on Saturday, Oct. 13. Red Cross volunteers will also offer fire safety instruction and escape plans as well as information on protecting oneself and family from weather disasters.
Smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in a home fire in half and should be tested once a month. Change batteries twice a year, in conjunction with daylight savings time.
Smoke alarms should be placed on every level in the home, including inside and outside bedrooms.
To schedule an appointment for free smoke alarm installation, call 877-287-3327, option 1.
