Brownie troops learn about going ‘green’

Daytime Gardeners members Barbara Feinberg and Mary Ellen Proto met with Brownie Troop 60400 and Troop 60387 recently to create posters for the National Garden Club Woodsy Owl Poster Contest. The activity involved learning about pollution, recycling, composting and reducing waste. Scouts listened to “The Saved Seed” by Brenda Moore to help them become more familiar with environment issues.

A first place poster for each grade was selected to compete with winners from other towns in Connecticut. First place winners were Ashlin McCann, second grade; Sucely Tyghter, third grade; and Teagan McCann, fourth grade. Second place winner was Alice Gabriele and third place winner was Ella Donaldson, both third grade.

State winners will move on to the national level, sponsored by the National Garden Clubs, Inc.
