MERIDEN  — A judge ordered a rearrest warrant for a woman after she failed to appear in court on Monday. The woman is charged with felony larceny and stealing a firearm.

Alexandria Highsmith, 24, of 11 Swift St., Branford, was arrested on Aug. 8 and charged with first-degree larceny, stealing a firearm and criminal accessory. She was scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Monday. She failed to appear and the judge ordered a warrant for her arrest, setting bond at $25,000.

On Feb. 15 a North Haven resident reported about $98,000 worth of jewelry, a Ruger .38 caliber revolver and two bottles of prescription medication were stolen from her home, according to the arrest warrant. The woman told police her daughter, identified as Highsmith, was the only one with access to the home, the warrant said.

Highsmith told police she has a heroin addiction and has been stealing from her mother’s safe, the warrant said. Highsmith said she has stolen jewelry to pay her dealer, and stole the gun, which she traded her dealer for drugs, the warrant said. Highsmith said two friends knew what was going on and would give her rides to the pawn shop so she could sell the jewelry, the warrant noted.

Police noted Highsmith has a criminal history including arrests for possession of a controlled substance, larceny, credit card fraud and drug paraphernalia.
