NORTH HAVEN — Police are investigating after a 7-week-old infant died Friday afternoon.

Police responded to a home on Fortune Drive early Friday afternoon for a report of a 7-week-old infant not breathing, Captain Kevin Glenn, police spokesman, said. Paramedics arrived and attempted life saving measures, and the infant was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, Glenn said. The infant was pronounced dead shortly after 3 p.m., Glenn stated.

Police investigating learned the infant was home with the father and the mother arrived home to find the child was not breathing, Glenn noted. The investigative division of the police department is working with the state’s attorney’s office and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine what led to the infant’s death, Glenn said.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family who are mourning the loss of this 7-week-old infant,” Glenn said in a statement.
