Man charged with robbery at North Haven Home Depot

NORTH HAVEN — A 54-year-old man faces charges after police said he threatened employees with a knife while trying to steal merchandise from Home Depot on Sunday.

Noel Santiago, unknown address, was charged with first-degree robbery, interfering with officers, carrying a dangerous weapon, illegal possession of a shoplifting device, fifth-degree larceny and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The incident occurred at Home Depot, 111 Universal Dr. N., around 12:40 p.m. Two men tried to take merchandise and, when confronted, Santiago pulled out a knife and waved it at security staff, police said.

Both suspects fled before police arrived. Santiago was eventually taken into custody a few hundred yards away after he fought with officers, police said. The second man escaped.
