State police identify person found dead after explosion

NORTH HAVEN — Police have identified the person found dead after a standoff and explosion at a Quinnipiac Avenue house earlier this month.

John Sayre, 60, died in the incident, according to an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Town records listed Deborah Sayre as the owner of the home. According to court documents, she filed for divorce from John Sayre last month.

On May 2, North Haven police received a report of a domestic disturbance at 385 Quinnipiac Ave. SWAT officers responded after police learned a man was barricaded in the home. Ten SWAT officers were injured in the explosion and nine were taken to the hospital. All have since been released.

After North Haven firefighters extinguished the blaze, detectives found the remains of one person.
