NORTH HAVEN — A 54-year-old man is facing a first-degree burglary charge after a woman told police she returned home and saw a man leaving with her purse.
The man, Johnny Doward, 54, was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Police did not release his address.
Doward was also charged with multiple counts of first-degree robbery on warrants from Branford and Hamden police.
North Haven police were called to a home on Bailey Road Friday around 8:20 p.m. for a report of a burglary, according to a press release.
A woman told police she arrived home to find a man in her home and attempting to leave with her purse, police said. When she confronted him, the man dropped the purse and fled toward a nearby school.
A police canine was able to locate the suspect, identified as Doward, hiding in a wooded area.
The press released didn’t include details about the incidents that resulted in the other warrants.
Police said Doward was held in lieu of $100,000 bond.
