North Haven residents sue town for sewer backup

NORTH HAVEN — Two neighbors are suing the town after a sewer backup flooded their homes two years ago.

Robert Ciccarelli and Denise Ciccarelli, of 10 Susan Lane, and Patricia DeMatties, of 2 Margo Circle, are suing the town, public works officials and the company that manages the town’s wastewater system.

According to court documents, on the morning of April 18, 2016, a sewage backup caused “raw sewage to overflow through the plumbing of (the homes) and enter into the living area,” causing flooding for several hours.

Manhole covers on Susan Lane had been paved over, “resulting in considerable delay before manholes could be located and the sewer lines accessed in order to stop the ongoing flooding and to initiate repairs,” documents state.

The Ciccarellis and DeMatties are both seeking more than $15,000.

DeMatties declined to comment. The Ciccarellis could not be reached for comment.
