Commencement Exercises for the Sacred Heart Academy Class of 2019 took place on Saturday, May 25. Vivian Wang (North Branford) delivered the Graduates’ Farewell Address, Clare Bassano (Milford) delivered the Graduates’ Welcoming Address and Mary Sarah Olson (North Haven) the Graduates’ Prayer.

Also, Olson was class salutatorian.

A member of the national math and science honor societies, Olson earned high honors all four years. She was also a four-year member of the varsity basketball team, serving as captain senior year, and she played soccer all four years.

For her accomplishments in academics and athletics, Olson was named the Sacred Heart Academy 2019 Scholar-Athlete.

Sophomore year, she was selected as the representative to attend the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Conference (HOBY) and as a junior she was the nominee for the Governor’s Scholar Award.

Olson was awarded the University of Rochester Xerox Innovator Award and the Princeton University Book Award, and was named an AP Scholar and Summa Scholar.

Also, she was an active member of Key Club, Earth Club, Math League, Sister to Sister, Peer Connection and Charism Connection. She was also a four-year member of the Yale New Haven Hospital Junior Board, where she helped raise awareness about issues in the community and spearheaded fundraising activities for the children’s hospital.

Olson is headed to Boston College where she plans to major in biology.

University of Pennsylvania, Bloomsburg, Pa., has named Rachel Purcell to its dean’s list for the spring semester.
