NORTH HAVEN — Fire officials say Amici Tavern will be closed for the coming days after a kitchen fire at the restaurant Thursday afternoon.

The fire was reported around 2:30 p.m. at 43 Broadway. Fire Chief Paul Januszewski said heavy smoke was rising from the building when firefighters arrived.

The restaurant was serving customers at the time and was evacuated before crews arrived, Januszewski said. The kitchen and one side of the building’s exterior had “extensive” damage.

There were no reported injuries. Police closed a section of the road at Washington Avenue while firefighters were on scene.

The Hamden Fire Department responded as mutual aid.
