NORTH HAVEN — Police have charged a New Haven woman with stealing a little more than $1,000 worth of sneakers from Designer Shoe Warehouse after identifying her with help from social media.
Atavia Wilson, 39, of New Haven, was charged with fourth-degree larceny on Monday. Her bond amount and court date were not immediately available.
Police released a surveillance photo on social media on Aug. 31, asking for help identifying a woman in the theft, which occurred the day prior at 410 Universal Drive North. Several anonymous tips led officers to identify Wilson.
Wilson concealed 14 pairs of sneakers in a DSW shopping bag and walked out of the store without paying, police said. Merchandise alarms were triggered in the theft. The sneakers had a total value of $1,095.
