NORTH HAVEN — A low flying helicopter is expected to install roof components on the new Amazon facility on Sunday.
The fire department issued a statement advising residents that they may hear or see the helicopter flying low throughout the day. The Amazon warehouse and fulfillment center is being built on the former Pratt & Whitney site, 415 Washington Ave. (Route 5).
“Please avoid the immediate area around the property as access and viewing of this project will be heavily restricted,” the statement said.
The fire and police departments have approved the helicopter’s use and have a plan in place “to ensure the safety of all residents,” the statement said.
Richard LoPresti, chairman of the town’s Economic Development Commission, said in August that the facility was still on schedule to open in May 2019.
The warehouse will feature mezzanines stocked with products and robots working alongside employees to pick, pack and ship goods throughout the region. It is expected to have an initial workforce of 1,800 and eventually reach 3,000 employees.
