NORTH HAVEN — Police closed Route 15 for about two and half hours Sunday evening after a multi-vehicle crash involving two state police cruisers.
Emergency crews were dispatched at 2:36 p.m. to the area of exit 62 on Route 15 north, near the North Haven-Hamden town line.
According to state police, a Toyota Camry stopped in the left lane abruptly. Two police cruisers stopped behind the vehicle and activated their emergency lights.
A Subaru traveling north in the left lane struck a Ford Ranger in front of it, which pulled over to the right shoulder. Then, a Honda Civic struck the Subaru, pushing the Subaru into one of the police cruisers. The Subaru spun out from the impact and struck the other police cruiser. A Honda Pilot then struck the Honda Civic, went airborne, landed and went off to the right into the guardrail on the right shoulder.
Five people were transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital with minor injuries.
