PLAINVILLE — A lifelong town resident has transformed a vacant lot into a modern funeral home.

“It’s pretty surreal still, but exciting,” said funeral home director Andrea Wasley, as she stood in a nearly finished suite of Plainville Funeral Home. The Broad Street business will hold a grand opening May 20.

Since breaking ground in October, she said she’s received a stream of support and interest from town officials and the community.

“It’s exciting because I wanted it to have a locally run feel,” she said. “It’s really a community project more than anything.”

She also hired local contractors and hopes to hire local employees.

Wasley previously worked as funeral director of another funeral home in Plainville. She has a total of 22 years experience  in the field.

Town Economic Development Director Mark DeVoe said Wasley is “highly respected” and is doing a service to the town by developing the lot.

“To see it go from the vacant gravel lot that it was to what it is today is amazing,” he said.

“It’s such a transformation and it's something that Andrea should be very, very proud of. I wish that every development would put (in) that additional work and design.

“She is very personable and friendly funeral director who will make the trauma that people tend to experience when they go to these places” easier to cope with,” DeVoe added.
