PLAINVILLE — Police identified the woman killed when her vehicle crashed through a guard rail and went down a steep ridge as Southington resident Denise Santana.

Santana, 35, was the sole occupant of a vehicle found at the base of the ridge after police were notified of damage to a guardrail in the area of 102 Ledge Road at approximately 3:27 p.m. on Sunday. Responding officers found evidence of a crash along the side of the road and later discovered the vehicle significantly off the roadway, Plainville Police Sergeant John Quilter wrote in a statement.

Quilter said Santana appeared to have been ejected from the vehicle and was found deceased prior to the arrival of first responders.

Plainville Fire Chief Kevin Toner said the time of the crash was not known on Sunday afternoon, but multiple residents reported to him that they heard sounds of a crash early Sunday morning.

Ledge Road was closed for several hours while the vehicle was removed and evidence was collected. The road has since been reopened.
