Southington police: Plainville woman stole $900 in gift cards, cash from Calendar House

SOUTHINGTON — A Plainville woman is accused of stealing hundreds of dollars worth of gift cards and cash from the town’s senior center.

Melissa King, 37, of 20 Pershing Drive, was charged with third-degree larceny. She was released on $2,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in Bristol Superior Court on Monday, Jan. 7.

On Nov. 20, Calendar House employees notified police after they discovered thefts of cash and gift cards. Sgt. Jeffrey Dobratz said the thefts were determined to have occurred between May and late November.

Missing items included $500 worth of Stop & Shop gift cards, $400 worth of Walgreens gift cards, $245 from a Christmas tree fund, $240 from a golf fund, $45 of petty cash, $5 and a book of 1-cent stamps.

Police interviewed multiple employees and others who had access to the building. King, who works for an independent cleaning contractor assigned to the building, said she took cash from the facility when questioned, Dobratz said.
