Cheshire man charged with stealing chainsaws from former employer in Plainville

PLAINVILLE — A Cheshire man faces charges after police said he stole equipment from a former employer.

Jason Bednarz, 27, of 132 Birch Drive, was charged Thursday with third-degree burglary, third-degree larceny and first-degree criminal trespass.

The owner of Natural Systems in Plainville contacted police on June 20 to report that he suspected Bednarz, a former employee with whom he had a dispute, had stolen five chainsaws valued at $3,600, according to Bednarz’s arrest warrant. The owner said an employee called him that day to say Bednarz was on the property.

Police noticed the locking mechanism on a door at the company had small pry marks and an employee of an adjacent business told police he saw Bednarz on June 20 pulling a truck out of the way so he could access the door, the warrant said.

Bednarz told police he was at Natural Systems that day trying to retrieve “property that belonged to him, but did not go inside, the warrant said.

He was released on $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Bristol Superior Court on July 16.
