Police: Plainville man assaulted woman, fled with four children in car

PLAINVILLE — A local man faces charges after police said he assaulted a woman and drove off with four young children.

Malachi Ford, 21, of 95 Broad St., was charged Sunday with risk of injury to a minor, second-degree strangulation, second-degree unlawful restraint, third-degree assault, possession of a controlled substance, disorderly conduct, third-degree robbery and operating under suspension. His bond was set at $75,000.

Police received 911 calls reporting a domestic incident at about 4:15 p.m. One caller, identified as Ford’s mother, followed her son’s vehicle and provided police his location, according to a police report. Ford drove over a marked median, made unsafe lane changes and sharp turns before being stopped by police.

The woman involved in the dispute told police it started after Ford took $100 from her bank account, the report said. The woman said Ford assaulted her, choked her, demanded more money and then drove off with the children.
