PLAINVILLE — A local woman was charged with cruelty to animals after police said she neglected to care for her dog.

Donna Madore, 29, of 6 Rosemont Drive, was charged Wednesday.

On Oct. 13, police met with an animal control officer about a Labrador that was brought to the shelter. The dog was wearing a cone collar that was dirty, and the animal control officer noticed the dog had significant hair loss and was covered  in red, flaky lesions, according to Madore’s arrest warrant.

The dog also had redness on her paws and pads and other problems associated with a lack of proper veterinary care, the warrant said.

Madore voluntarily surrendered the dog, which was taken to a veterinarian for treatment.

Madore was arraigned in Bristol Cuperior Court on Wednesday and released her on a promise to appear in court on Dec. 21.
