9/11 ceremonies planned in Meriden, Wallingford and Southington Wednesday

Here’s a list of some of the 9/11 observances in our area:

MERIDEN

The city will hold its annual 9/11 remembrance event on Wednesday beginning at 8:30 a.m. at City Hall. The event includes a flag-raising ceremony featuring one of the flags that flew at the World Trade Center.

WALLINGFORD

The Wallingford 9/11 ceremony is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in front of Town Hall. This year’s guest speaker is a Sheehan High School student. The event is sponsored by the Wallingford Fire Department and the Public Celebrations Committee. In case of rain, the program will be moved inside to Town Council Chambers.

New Life Church, 350 High Hill Road, will host a Meriden/Wallingford 9-11 Memorial Service with color guards from the Meriden Police K-9 Unit and South Meriden Volunteer Fire Department with special guest Oklahoma City veteran firefighter Chris Fields. The event starts at 7 p.m. and is open to the public.

SOUTHINGTON

A brief public service will be held at the 9/11 memorial in Plantsville, located on the corner of Summer and West Main streets, at 8:46 a.m. The public is advised to arrive at 8:30 a.m. to ensure adequate parking is available.
