SOUTHINGTON — Police have released photos of a man who robbed a downtown bank Friday morning after he unsuccessfully tried to make a fraudulent transaction.
A man, believed to be in his mid-30s, walked into TD Bank, 121 Main St. about 11:15 a.m., approached a teller and tried to make a fraudulent transaction with another person’s identification, said Lt. Jay Suski.
The transaction was unsuccessful, and the man handed the teller a note demanding money and implying he had a weapon, Suski said. The man was handed an undetermined amount of money and fled the scene. There were no reported injuries and no weapon was displayed.
The man was reportedly 6 feet tall, and was last seen wearing a knit hat, dark sweatshirt, dark jeans and work boots. He also had a goatee.
Police said Town Hall, the library and schools were placed in lockdown.
School Superintendent Tim Connellan sent an email to parents around noon notifying them of additional security measures.
