Bristol Hospital opens specialist offices in downtown Southington

SOUTHINGTON — Bristol Hospital is opening doctors’ offices on Main Street, expanding access in a town that hospital officials say is one of its main markets.

The new practice, Bristol Hospital Multi Specialty Group, 98 Main St., will begin seeing patients on Monday. Services include foot and ankle surgery, sports medicine, urology, general surgery, pulmonary medicine, primary care and an x-ray suite.

Christopher Boyle, hospital spokesman, said the health care group is seeing more and more Southington patients at its Bristol campus. Bringing specialists to town for initial and follow-up visits makes care more convenient.

“You really want to bring the expertise closer to home for people,” Boyle said. ’“This is where you have to be to stay competitive.”

For the specialty group, the competition is down the hall of the downtown building. Hartford Healthcare also has offices at 98 Main St., recently opened an urgent care location on Queen Street and is nearly finished with a medical office building on Queen Street.

Boyle said Bristol Hospital may expand in Southington and “definitely” intends to add new specialists to the new 2,000 square foot space.

“We’ll see how well we do here,” he said.

Similar specialty groups in Plainville and New Britain have done well. Boyle said success does require getting the word out to the community.

The downtown building, owned by Florian Properties, is a “beautiful location” with easy access and free parking, according to Boyle.

Mat Florian couldn’t be reached for comment on his newest tenant.

Last month, a GoHealth urgent care location opened at 775 Queen St.

Kirsten Jones, market president with Hartford Health Care, said GoHealth offers testing, flu shots, care for lacerations and x-rays.

The urgent care has four rooms and can see 40 to 50 patients per day. There is always a doctor, physician's assistant or nurse practitioner on duty, Jones said, as well as an x-ray technician.

Jones said it’s the seventh GoHealth location for Hartford Health Care.

In addition to Hartford Healthcare and Bristol Hospital, Southington may also have a Trinity Health Care location. Builders of a medical office building presented plans to the Planning and Zoning Commission but are looking for a location.
