SOUTHINGTON — Interstate 691 westbound was closed for a short period Saturday afternoon as emergency crews respond to two crashes.
Deputy Fire Chief Scott DiBattista said two vehicles were involved in the first accident, which occurred on the eastbound side of the highway at 12:39 p.m. One individual was transported to Midstate Medical Center with minor injuries.
While crews were responding, two vehicles were involved in a secondary collision at 12:56 p.m. on the westbound side of the highway adjacent to the scene of the first. DiBattista said it appeared one vehicle had rear-ended another, causing minor injuries to one individual, who was tranported to Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury.
Due to the position of one of the vehicles in the center of the westbound travel lane, crews briefly closed the highway, DiBattista said.
