Five-year-old in critical condition after crash in Southington

SOUTHINGTON — A 5-year-old child was in critical condition after a crash on West Street Saturday afternoon.

The accident occurred about 2 p.m. near ESPN’s south entrance. Police said the 21-year-old woman driving the vehicle with the children was traveling south on West Street when she apparently lost control of the car.

It spun into the northhound lane and collided with a vehicle driven by a 61-year-old man with one passenger. The man and his passenger were taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury.

The woman was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Hartford with possible serious injuries.

A 5-year-old child was transported to Bristol Hospital with serious injuries and later taken to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center via LifeStar. The child’s condition was reported as critical. A 1-year-old child was taken directly to CCMC and was listed in stable condition, according to police.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information on the crash can contact Officer Ryan Lair at 860-378-1623 or RLair@southingtonpolice.org.
