Police in Meriden, Wallingford and Southington are participating in the statewide Click it or Ticket campaign running from Nov. 19 to Nov. 26. The campaign aims to raise awareness about seatbelt laws around the Thanksgiving holiday.
The National Highway Safety Administration reported during the 2016 Thanksgiving holiday weekend there were 341 people killed in crashes across the country, with 49 percent of those killed not wearing a seatbelt. State law requires all drivers, front seat passengers and children under 16 to wear seatbelts. The fine for a first offense starts at $92.
