SOUTHINGTON — One person reported minor injuries after a car struck a tree on West Street late Thursday night.

The two-car accident occurred near Churchill Street around 11:50 p.m., police spokesman Sgt. Jeffrey Dobratz said. Two vehicles were traveling south on West Street when the first car slowed and was rear-ended and pushed down an embankment, where it struck a tree.

The driver of the car that struck the tree was extricated from the vehicle and taken to Hartford Hospital with minor injuries, Dobratz said. The north travel lane was closed until just before 2 a.m.
