SOUTHINGTON — A Bristol man faces charges after police said he was found with a gun, ammunition and drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop last week.

Jason Pinette, 29, of 79 5th St., Bristol, was arrested on Friday and charged with carrying a firearm without a permit, criminal possession of a handgun, illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, possession of less than half an ounce of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding.

On Friday, police stopped Pinette’s vehicle for a speeding violation, according to police spokesman Lt. Stephen Elliott. While speaking with Pinette, an officer saw a scale that is commonly used to weigh drugs. When asked about the scale, Pinette handed police a small marijuana cigarette.

Police searched the car and found a .40 caliber handgun and a magazine with ten bullets, Elliott noted. Police discovered Pinette did not have a permit to possess the gun.

Pinette was taken into custody and later released on $10,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Bristol Superior Court on Aug. 13.
