SOUTHINGTON — A local man faces charges after police said he attempted to break into a home and car last weekend.

Christopher Crehan, 30, of Plantsville, charged July 13 with criminal attempt to commit third-degree burglary, criminal attempt to commit second-degree burglary, breach of peace, possession of narcotics, and possession of a controlled substance.

On July 13 police responded to a home on Buckland Street for a report of a burglary in progress, police spokesman Lt. Stephen Elliott said. Officers responded and were told the suspect left the area. Police found a man matching the description from the witness and identified him as Crehan, Elliott said.

Police investigating determined Crehan went to a home on Buckland Street and tried to push a window air conditioner in to get access, Elliott said. Police learned Crehan also tried to get into a vehicle that was in the driveway of another home on Buckland Street. Police found narcotic pills and heroin in Crehan’s possession. He was arraigned in Bristol Superior Court on Monday. The judge set bond at $25,000 and continued the case to Aug. 20.
