SOUTHINGTON — A local woman faces charges after police said they found her with more than 500 small bags of heroin and more than an ounce and a half of crack cocaine.
Shawyna Watson, 34, of 32 Darling St., was charged Monday with possession of narcotics with intent to sell, and two counts each of possession of narcotics and possession of narcotics within 1,500 feet of a school.
On Sunday, police responded to the area of Darling Street and Flanders Road for a report of a person slumped over the wheel of a vehicle, police spokesman Lt. Stephen Elliott said. While officers were attending to Watson, they saw what appeared to be marijuana and materials used for packaging heroin in the vehicle.
Police searched the vehicle and found a plastic bag containing 48 grams of crack cocaine, Elliott said. Police also seized 504 bags of heroin. Watson was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
She was released on $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Bristol Superior Court on Jan. 22.
