SOUTHINGTON — The burglary of a West Street convenience store early Friday morning resulted in a multi-town pursuit in which a state police cruiser was rammed.
One juvenile was arrested in New Britain. Police are searching for three other suspects who stole another vehicle in New Britain and fled.
At around 1:50 a.m. Friday, state police were notified of a burglary at a Southington convenience store off Exit 31 of Interstate 84 in which the suspects had fled in a vehicle onto the highway.
Police say the suspects were operating a stolen white pickup truck, which a witness followed onto I-84 east. A state trooper spotted the vehicle around exit 41 and pursued the truck onto Route 9 south.
The truck got off Route 9 at exit 29 colliding with a concrete curb causing a flat tire. The truck continued the wrong way on Ella Grasso Boulevard when the operator intentionally rammed a state police cruiser. The same state trooper then rammed the truck to stop it. Four suspects jumped out of the truck and ran from state police. One suspect was taken into custody.
Police used a K-9 unit to assist in a search, finding narcotics and burglary tools but made no other arrests. Police say the remaining suspects stole a green Honda Civic from a passerby on Stratford Road in New Britain.
The white pickup truck, a Chevy Silverado, was stolen in Bristol and had led police on a chase earlier in the week.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call state police Troop H at 860-534-1000.
