Southington police: Man struck vehicle, fire hydrant and tree while driving under influence

SOUTHINGTON — A local man has been charged with DUI after police say he struck a vehicle, fire hydrant and tree on Monday.

Jason Galonski, 32, of 175 Berlin Ave., was charged with driving under the influence, third-degree criminal mischief, evading responsibility, failure to grant half of the highway, improper turn, failure to obey a stop sign and failure to drive in proper lane.

He was released on $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Bristol Court on Jan. 2.

Galonski was driving south on Oak Street when his car struck a vehicle traveling north, Lt. Stephen Elliott said in a statement. Galonski continued driving, striking a large rock, a fire hydrant and a tree on Academy Lane.

He suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to an area hospital. An investigation determined Galonski was driving under the influence, Elliott said.
