SOUTHINGTON — A local man faces charges after police said he illegally pointed a laser pointer at a group of juveniles after an argument.

Robert Schmaling Jr., 49, of 253 West St., was charged with illegal use of a laser pointer, second-degree threatening and second-degree breach of peace.

The incident began when Schmaling became involved in an argument with a group of minors who he believed did not belong on the property of a local apartment complex, Lt. Stephen Elliott said in a statement.

Schmaling pointed a laser pointer at the juveniles as if he had a firearm, Elliott said.
