Southington police: Local man was intoxicated when he struck two cars

SOUTHINGTON — A local man has been charged after police said he was intoxicated when he struck two cars last month.

Travis Kiyak, 28, was charged Thursday with driving under the influence, operating while suspended, failure to insure motor vehicle and failure to maintain proper lane. He was held on $20,000 bond.

Sgt. Jeffrey Dobratz said Kiyak struck two cars on Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike, near Lombardo Court, on Dec. 1. He was injured in the accident and taken to an area hospital.

Police served a search warrant for his medical records, which showed an elevated blood alcohol level, Dobratz said.
