Missing Southington man’s death ruled suicide

SOUTHINGTON — The death of a local man reported missing late last month has been ruled a suicide.

Charles “Chuck” Davenport, 56, a carpenter and shop teacher at Wilcox Technical High School, was reported missing on Nov. 27.

Police found Davenport’s body in the area of Lake Street in New Britain Tuesday following a statewide Silver Alert.

According to the Chief Medical Examiner’s office, he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Davenport was a popular Wilcox teacher, according to students and parents, and known in Southington for his work as an expert carpenter.

“Our hearts go out to Mr. Davenport's family, his students and colleagues at Wilcox and the Connecticut Technical High School System family during this difficult time," state Education Commissioner Dianna Wentzell said in a statement this week.
