SOUTHINGTON — Kristen’s Kloset, a statewide prom dress program, operated on an altered schedule this year but organizers expect to return to normal next season.
Youth Services Director Christina Simms said the closet is usually held over two weekends at Southington High School.
This year those weekend programs didn’t occur. Instead youths with vouchers from their school can set up an appointment to get a prom dress.
Simms said residents and schools were notified of the change. She plans to return to a normal schedule next year.
The program offers hundreds of prom gowns at no cost to teens across the state.
Kristen's Kloset was named after Southington student Kristen Warner, who died in a car accident in 2004. Warner's family created the program in her memory.
