Southington police remind residents of winter parking rules

SOUTHINGTON – The police department is reminding residents of snow removal fines and winter parking ordinances that will take effect later this month.

Beginning Nov. 15 and continuing through April, residents are prohibited from parking on streets for more than one hour between midnight and 6 a.m. The police department is also permitted to ban street parking during a snowstorm or emergency, Lt. Stephen Elliott said in a statement.

Residents are also reminded that they must remove snow and ice from sidewalks fronting their home following a storm. Snow must be removed within 24 hours following the end of a snowstorm, and ice must be salted within three hours, Elliott said. If snow or ice is not removed, residents could face a $95 fine.

Residents may also face a $25 fine if removed snow is thrown into cleared streets or sidewalks.
