SOUTHINGTON — A water main break closed a section of Route 10 Friday.
The break occurred about 11:15 a.m. Water department superintendent Bill Casarella said a 12-inch pipe split.
A section of Main Street (Route 10) was closed between Meriden Avenue and Chestnut Street until about 9 p.m.
Derynoski Elementary School, 240 Main St., dismissed early at 1:30 p.m. due to the incident.
Town officials said the school and about a dozen homes were affected. Repairs were expected to finish Friday night.
Traffic was detoured via Bristol and Chestnut streets. Delays were reported in the area, according to the state Department of Transportation.
The water department is investigating.
