Southington police: Waterbury man knocked man unconscious at Denny’s

SOUTHINGTON — Police have charged a Waterbury man in an early-morning fight at Denny’s in August.

Jayson Calderon-Perez, 34, of 398 Willow St., Waterbury, was charged Monday with second-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace. He was initially held on $10,000 bond.

On Aug. 11 about 4 a.m., Calderon-Perez and a woman he was with became involved in an argument with a woman at another table at the restaurant, 621 Queen St. Lt. Stephen Elliott said a bystander attempted to intervene when the dispute became physical.

Calderon-Perez reportedly struck the bystander in the back of the head, knocking him unconscious, Elliott said. He then fled the restaurant.

Police said they received information that led to officers to identify Calderon-Perez after they released surveillance photos from the night of the assault.
