MERIDEN — Last Halloween, popular costumes included Harley Quinn, characters from the Netflix hit “Stranger Things” and the HBO show “Game of Thrones.” So what can we expect to see this year?
Due to the recent reboot of the Stephen King film “It,” you may see a lot of clown costumes. Due to the movie’s ominous marketing techniques, creepy clown costumes have been all over the internet and it’s safe to bet you’ll be seeing quite a few on Halloween.
If clowns aren’t your cup of tea, the most serached for and purchased costume for women is Wonder Woman, according to multiple lifestyle websites like Cosmopolitan, Buzzfeed and Allure. Many outlets are selling full copy costumes of the strong and powerful lady, or you can find plenty of do-it-yourself ways to pull off the look.
Some costume trends from 2016 have carried over, such as “Stranger Things” and “Game of Thrones.” There are also new trending looks, like mermaids, giraffes and characters from the recent reboot of “Baywatch.” Yes, you read that correctly, giraffe costumes have been trending and unicorns have been pretty popular, too.
But if you’re too lazy for all of that and you’re on a budget, thrift stores may be your new best friend. Many thrift stores and dollar stores sell halloween costumes cheaper than chain stores, or you can browse and make your own costume for cheap. We deciced to see how easy it would be to put together costumes from regular clothes being sold at a thrift store, and we were not disappointed.
