National Weather Service confirms tornadoes hit parts of state

The National Weather Service confirmed two tornadoes struck parts of the state on Tuesday.

One tornado had a nine-mile path between Beacon Falls and Hamden with winds up to 110 mph. The other tornado had a four-mile path between Southbury and Oxford with winds up to 100 mph.

Wallingford Public Schools are closed Thursday. As of 8 a.m. Eversource is reporting 63,174 outages, with the largest numbers in the western part of the state. Meriden has 308 customers without power and Cheshire has 84 outages. 

The forecast for Thursday calls for rain before 11 a.m. with temperatures in the mid-70s.
