The state Department of Transportation has started a safety campaign alerting motorists about the increased number of trains passing through crossings along the CTrail Hartford Line, which is scheduled to launch June 16.
This initiative is part of Operation Lifesaver, a national educational and awareness campaign around safety at railroad crossings.
Operation Lifesaver safety ambassadors handed out literature Wednesday regarding the CTrail Hartford Line and increased rail traffic in downtown Meriden.
Part of the $700 million Hartford Line upgrade, includes new signaling, crossing bars, and advanced horns that alert motorists and pedestrians to an oncoming train with less neighborhood disruption.
