Strong thunderstorms could lead to flash flooding in the area Tuesday afternoon and evening.
The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for New Haven and Hartford counties from noon through Tuesday evening.
“A slow moving frontal system will bring numerous showers and thunderstorms to the region this afternoon into this evening,” the National Weather Service said in a statement.
Rainfall rates could be between 1 and 2 inches per hour. Storms could be accompanied by “damaging winds.”
“These types of rainfall rates will cause urban and poor drainage flooding, with potential for flash flooding in areas affected by multiple successive thunderstorms,” the National Weather Service said. “Additionally, rapid water level rises can occur on flashy small rivers and streams in basins affected by this activity.”
