Six hospitalized after police pursuit that started in North Haven

HAMDEN — A motor vehicle pursuit that started in North Haven ended when a car reported stolen crashed into two other vehicles stopped at a red light on Dixwell Avenue early Tuesday. 

Six people were hospitalized, one with reported life-threatening injuries.

Shortly after 2 a.m., a Honda Pilot driven by Jonathan Garcia, 19, of New Haven, crashed into the rear of a Chevrolet Silverado and Nissan Armada stopped at a light at the intersection of Dixell Avenue and Woodin Street. The Honda was traveling south at the time of the crash.

Prior to the collision, the Honda had been engaged in a pursuit with North Haven police after they attempted to make a traffic stop. The Honda was been reported stolen from New Britain on Dec. 29.

A rear passenger in the Honda, Andrew Basilici, 25, of Hamden, sustained life-threatening injuries. Garcia and the front right passenger of the vehicle, Emily May Bott, 21, of New Haven, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, along with the three occupants of the Armada. All of those injured were transported to Yale New Haven Hospital.

State police are investigating the incident at the request of the New Haven State’s Attorney’s Office. Any witnesses are asked to contact Trooper Wayne Petralito at 203-630-5634.
