Up to 5 inches of snow could accumulate Tuesday.

Snow will begin to fall Tuesday morning about 9 a.m., according to Gary Lessor, meteorologist with the Weather Center at Western Connecticut University. The snow will continue throughout the afternoon hours before eventually mixing with sleet.

Freezing rain is forecast Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, Lessor said. Snow accumulation will be between 3 and 5 inches, with about a quarter inch of ice.

Temperatures on Wednesday are expected to be in the 40s, Lessor noted.

Southington and Wallingford have issued parking bans ahead of the storm.
