Judge known for fairness dies at 68

NEW LONDON — A Connecticut judge known for his fairness and understanding of people from all walks of life has died. Superior Court Judge Kevin McMahon was 68. His wife, Patricia “Patti” McMahon, told The Day newspaper that McMahon suffered from rheumatoid arthritis and had been at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital for nearly a month when he died Monday. She says her husband, who was known as “The People’s Judge,” loved being a judge in New London and Norwich. Semi-retired since 2013, McMahon continued to handle some difficult cases as a senior judge. The New Britain native attended Providence College and Western New England College School of Law.
