This weekend offers St. Patrick’s Day and Easter celebrations, several chances to stretch your art skills with egg decorating and art book creations, and multiple shows in magic and comedy.

Film Showing: “I am not Your Negro”

When: 6:30-8:30 p.m., Friday

Where: Unitarian Universalist Church

Description: “I Am Not Your Negro” is a documentary exploring the history of racism in America, through James Baldwin’s reminiscences of civil rights leaders Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Medgar Evans, written in his unfinished manuscript in the 1970s. The church will hold a discussion afterward.

Fifth Annual Lincoln Day Dinner

When: 6-10 p.m., Saturday

Where: II Monticello Banquet, 577 S. Broad St. 

Description: The Meriden Republican Committee hosts this annual dinner, with guest speaker Chris Powell, retired managing editor of the Journal Inquirer. Patrons can socialize, meet candidates for state office and take part in a quiz about presidents with former Mayor Manny Santos. Dinner served family style, cash bar, tickets in advance are $55.

Gallery 53 Anniversary Gala

When: 7-9 p.m., Saturday

Where: Gallery 53, 53 Colony St. 

Description: Live music by the Gonkus Brothers & Bitsy, appetizers and desserts, the gallery’s signature drink will all be part of this celebration of the gallery’s 110th year. Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door.

“Magic in Heels” Show

When: 7 p.m., Friday

Where: Mark T. Sheehan High School 142 Hope Hill Rd. 

Description: Kayla Drescher, a native to Wallingford and Sheehan graduate, will perform magic to support the Sheehan Music Department. Open to all ages. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for children and seniors, sold at the door.

Tips for Healthy Living for Your Aging Brain and Body 

When: 12 -1 p.m., Friday

Where: Wallingford YMCA, 81 S. Elm St. 

Description: The Alzheimer’s Association hosts an educational program for participants to learn about the best nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement to keep your brain and body healthy as you age.

Comedy Show with Kerri Louise

When: 7-10 p.m., Saturday

Where: The Library Wine Bar and Bistro, 60 N. Main St. 

Description: Comedians Kerri Louise and Andre McSween will perform. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased by calling 203-678-4656, emailing events@thelibarywinebar.com or at the restaurant. Tickets include salad, dinner, dessert, and soft drinks.

Create an Art Book

When: 2-4 p.m., Saturday 

Where: Wallingford Public Library, 200 N. Main St. 

Description: Adults and teens in grades nine and above are invited to create their own art book under the guidance of local artist Rashmi Talpade. Old book of various types will be provided for participants to cut out designs, draw designs and decorate with provided art supplies. This is a two-part program, the second session will be Saturday, March 17.

O’Shenanigans 5K

When: 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday

Where: 409 Canal St. (outside Kinsmen Brewing Co.)

Description: This 5K will route through rural roads in Southington and Cheshire and back to the brewery and taproom. Costumes are encouraged. Runner registration is closed, but people can come to support and celebrate with the participants.

Breakfast with the Easter Bunny

When: 9-11:30 a.m., Saturday

Where: Southington Community YMCA, 29 High St. 

Description: Kids are welcome to come meet the Easter Bunny and enjoy a light breakfast, Easter-themed arts and crafts and an Easter egg hunt. Register at the YMCA front desk or by calling 860-628-5597. Admission price varies from $5 to $15.

KC Sisters Family Concert

When: 5-7:30 p.m., Friday

Where: Cheshire Public Library, 104 Main St. 

Description: For “library after hours,” the KC Sisters, a family band featuring five sisters with their Dad on piano, will perform multi-harmonized songs, country fiddling, originals, and a selection of songs across genres. Pizza and drinks will be available for purchase. No admission fee.

Pysanky Egg Decorating

When: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday

Where: Cheshire Public Library, 104 Main St. 

Description: Learn the art of Pysanky Egg decorating, a Ukrainian decorating technique using special wax and color, from the “egg lady” Sharon Leonard. Registration is required through the library. Children must be over the age of eight to participate.

Annual Irish Eyes are Miling Fun Run

When: 11 a.m. registration, event starts at noon

Where: Corner of Williamsburg Dr. and Surrey Dr. 

Description: The 21st annual fun run/walk is a 1.1 mile route with no entry fee for anyone wearing green. Participants are asked to donate to the Cheshire Food Pantry.

When: 1:30 p.m., Sunday

Where: Downtown New Haven 

Description: Greater New Haven’s annual parade in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.
