State police holiday traffic patrols to conclude tonight

State police have issued thousands of traffic violations during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Increased patrols began at Wednesday and will conclude tonight.

State troopers are patrolling roads and highways across Connecticut focusing on drunken driving violations and aggressive drivers, according to a news release, supplementing the normal patrol force with additional troopers.

From Wednesday until 8 a.m. today, police issued tickets for 866 speeding violations, 180 seatbelt violations and 2,042 other hazardous violations including unsafe lane change, following too closely, cell phone usage, texting and failure to signal.

Police also made 46 DUI arrests and investigated 428 accidents, 61 of which resulted in an injury and two in fatalities, one in Killingly on Wednesday and one in Cromwell on Saturday.
